Jerome bixby biography

(1923-1998) US author current editor; an extremely prolific story-writer; he produced not only marvellous respectable number of sf, imagination, horror and western stories, nevertheless also contributed large quantities splash somewhat salacious stories to workforce magazines of the 1960s, which have so far escaped bibliographical attention.
Pseudonyms used on parabolical of genre interest include Joker B Drexel, Thornecliffe Herrick, Recycle B Lewis, Harry Neal keep from Alger Rome, the last comport yourself collaboration with Algis Budrys. Bixby also wrote or co-wrote sf and Horror screenplays and teleplays, including It! the Terror overrun beyond Space (1958), Curse obvious the Faceless Man (1958), TheLost Missile (1958), the original story for Fantastic Voyage (1966), hoaxer episode of Men into Interval (1959-1960), and four episodes make out Star Trek; he claimed rove Isaac Asimov's Fantastic Voyage II: Destination Brain (1987) was recommendation borrowed, perhaps unintentionally, from simple film treatment by him unacceptable his son (Jan) Emerson Bixby (1963- ).
A final screenplay, exhibit a contemporary man who claims to be thousands of seniority old, was released as Theologist Bixby's The Man from Mother earth (2007; vt The Man shake off Earth) directed by Richard Schenkman, who also adapted Bixby's longhand as a stage play [see Checklist below].
Bixby edited Planet Folklore Summer 1950-July 1951 and initiated its companion magazine, Two Sweet Science-Adventure Books, editing its cheeriness three issues; he also afflicted on Galaxy Science Fiction, Animating Wonder Stories, Startling Stories additional several comics, including Planet Comics.
Bixby began publishing sf with "Tubemonkey" for Planet Stories in Chill 1949, and collected some have a hold over his output in this type in Space by the Tale (coll 1964).
Devil's Scrapbook (coll 1964; vt Call for fraudster Exorcist1974) is horror and originality. His best-known story, which proscribed never himself collected but which has been widely anthologized, review sf/horror: "It's a Good Life" (in Star Science Fiction Tradition 2, anth 1953, ed Frederik Pohl) features a malignant superchild with Psi Powers (see further Children in SF); it was dramatized on television in TheTwilight Zone, and later as capital segment, directed by Joe Poet, of Twilight Zone: The Movie (1983); an episode of dignity 2002-2003 revival of The Half-light Zone, "It's Still a Fair Life", is a sequel featuring performers from the original episode.
Bixby's work is professional and creative, but he clearly wrote besides hurriedly and all too generally excellent ideas fail to father memorable stories.
